Q12350 - INFO: Configuration - Source Configuration Q12309
This is the source configuration screen for the Hach WIMS Direct Server-Side Interface to Tribal LIMS.

In order to configure source connection from the interface, click Configuration and select Source Configuration.

The next screen will display parameters on two tabs. The first is Database Connection:

  • Configuration Template - three templates are included in the Tribal LIMS interface designed for use with ORACLE DBMS, MS SQL Server, or MS Access. These will fill in the most common values for the database connection.
  • DBMS Type - Select the Tribal LIMS system type from one of these:
    • Oracle
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • MS Access
  • OLE DB Provider - this will be filled in with Configuration Template and DBMS Type, and can be modified if needed. Possible options are: OraOLEDB.ORACLE, SQLNCLI, SQLOLEDB, and Microsoft Jet OLEDB type drivers.
  • Data Source - this field specifies, in loose terms, the "Database/Datasource server name" where your Tribal LIMS system is configured to store data.  If using ORACLE TNS names, this would be the appropriate place for your Tribal LIMS database engine's TNS name.
  • Database Name - name of the database instance; for Oracle this could be the user name, MS SQL Server would be the database name, and in MS Access this would be blank.
  • Username - The username you want to use to connect to the database. This user should have permission to access the database and tables that contain data.
  • Password - The password associated with the Username and is used to connect to the database.
  • Advanced Configuration - these permit adjustment of the command and connection timeout.

    • Connection Timeout in Seconds - how many seconds the program should wait when establishing a connection to the GE Fanuc Proficy iHistorian server.
    • Command Timeout in Seconds - specifies how many seconds the program should wait for a query to complete before aborting the operation.
  • Customizations - this can be used to specify extra connection parameters, Advanced Users Only
  • Test Connection - this will test the connection to the Tribal LIMS database
  • View Applied Connection String - this display the connection string built using the applied values (click the Apply Settings first). It can display a string with or without the password. From here, the string can be copied and pasted when configuring the browser connection string.

The second tab is Advanced Settings:

  • Source Tables Owner - Owner or schema (Oracle) of the Tribal database tables, required for most ORACLE connections. Tribal databases using MS Access can leave this blank.

  • Sample Field Method - If SAMPLETYPE is selected, the interface will use the SAMPLE.SAMPLETYPE in the Tribal database as the third parameter when looking for matches between the LIMS data and a Hach WIMS variable.  If SAMPLESTUDY is selected, the interface uses SAMPLE.SAMPLESTUDY instead. Default setting is SAMPLESTUDY. If MATRIX is selected SAMPLE.MATRIX is used.

  • Import Hach WIMS Comments - If Enabled and a value imported includes an unknown symbol, the value will be written to comments. Default setting is Enabled.

  • Date and Time Field Usage - Either select just SampleDate only or the SampleTime can be include for the time stamp used in importing into Hach WIMS. If SampleDate only option is used, only one value will be imported per day, and it will have midnight for the time. If SampleDate + SampleTime is used, then the time stamp will be the date part of SampleDate and the time portion of SampleTime. Default setting is SampleDate only.

  • Date Field to Search On - Depending on how the Tribal LIMS is set up using the DateUpdated and DateCompleted will determine how you want this set up. If you have Tribal always put a date in DateUpdated, then this might be the best selection. If you want to know when a test is completed only, then DateComplete might be the right choice. Selecting DateUpdated OR DateCompleted will get all records. In our test source database from a Tribal LIMS, we noticed there were 1517 records with a DateUpdated for a given month, when we selected DateCompleted we got 3006 records for the exact same date range, and when we selected both DateUpdated OR DateCompleted we recieved 7171 records. Default setting is DateUpdated.

We are not experts on Tribal LIMS, so we do not know how the settings in Tribal change its behavior with regard to these two date fields. It is important that you understand what the settings mean and select the appropriate field for your system.
