Q10249 - INFO: POPS WM (1.0.6 or earlier) is incompatible with Windows Mobile 5.0

Pocket OPS Windows Mobile (POPS WM) was designed to run on Pocket PC's running Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 operating system. POPS WM stores data on the device in Pocket Access format in file called pops.mdb.

With the release of Windows Mobile 5.0, Microsoft has decided to drop support for Pocket Access. Therefore POPS WM 1.0.6 (or prior) will not work on Windows Mobile 5.0. Rumors float that MS is attempting to re-eable this feature, but no solid confirmation has been released.

If you are purchasing new devices to run POPS WM, we recommend that you get ones that run Windows Mobile 2003, and can be upgraded to Windows Mobile 5.0. The bad news is that most of the devices you can buy in retail will run 5.0, and it is not always possible to "downgrade" them to 2003.

Newegg has a device (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16858103139) that would be perfect, but quantities are limited.

ALSO Note that Microsoft Active Sync 4.0 or higher has been designed not to sync pocket access files. DO NOT install Microsoft Active Sync 4.0 or higher  on your system. There is no way to "downgrade" this software. POPS WM needs Microsoft Active Sync 3.8. Download it at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/activesync38.mspx
