Q14158 - HOWTO: Bulk delete data after an invalid interface run

When starting up a WIMS Interface, sometimes it is necessary to clear the data written after a run due to invalid data being imported.

  • You discover after the run you are referring to the wrong tags.
  • You may have referred to a test server that has test data.
  • SCADA system collected invalid data for a date range
  • Etc...

The simplest way is to use a Monthly Data Entry Form, highlight the data and delete.  However, this can be burdensome if the import contained numerous daily detail variables.  The Edit Data Utility allows you to select a set of variables, a date range and delete the data (transactions ARE written to the audit trail).

Steps:

1. Start the Edit Data Utility

NOTE:  If you do not see the Edit Data Util menu option, you MUST check the "Allowed to use Edit Data Util (if Manager):" User Specific Setting in User Setup for all users that need access to the Edit Data Util in order to see/use this menu option.

2. Click  which displays the variable browser allowing you to select variables.  Sort by the Signal Tag field by clicking on the Signal Tag Column Header.  If the Signal Tag field is not displayed use the variable browser setup button to make it visible.

3. Set the Date Range.  In this case we imported data for Oct 1st and the 2nd.

4. Select the Delete values displayed.

5. Click Refresh

6. Click Update.  You will be asked for confirmation and the data will be cleared.
