Q14279 - INFO: SDWIS/State Fixed-Format Lab EDI File Structure

EPA has developed 31 different structure sets for creating fixed-format, fixed-length ASCII files that contain a variety of water system data.  Hach WIMS supports two of these file structures: B_SAMPLE_SAMPLE_SUMMARY and B_RESULT_SUMMARY_RESULT.

Hach WIMS can produce these files from a Spread Report using Locate, eDMR Link, Connecticut EDI

Hach WIMS can also import these data files from an external lab using certain interfaces.

The two files combined allow us to report results in the following categories.

  • Total Coliform
  • Chemical and Lead & Copper
  • Radionuclide
  • Water Quality

The file structures are identical for each category; however the "rules" for filling out the fields differ for each category.

For more detailed information on the file structures see sections 18 and 19 of Appendix A in the SDWIS/STATE System Administrator Guide for Release 8.0.
