This article explains the work flow of data from the EDI lab data files (from the SDWIS/STATE System Adminitration Guide section 18 and 19) and how LabCal and Hach WIMS Client variables are updated. The most important thing to understand is the rules governing the work flow.
In order to import results into Hach WIMS and update a LabCal sample tests, the following rules must be applied:
- The interface uses two fields from the EDI Lab Data file to match a LabCal Sample Test, which matches to a variable in Hach WIMS
- The Lab Sample Number (on DTR line, field no. 4) in the EDI file must be in the LabCal Samples User Defined field 5 (UD5)
- The Analyte Code (on DTR line, field no. 6) in the EDI file must be added to the storet table and in the test table (see LabCal Setup), and the test must be added to the sample
- The Analyte Code is added to the Sample by adding the test we created
- There must be a valid value in the following fields in the EDI Lab Data files:
- Of course the Lab Sample Number (on DTR, field no. 4) and Analyte Code (on DTR, field no. 6) are used to look up the sample and test in Hach WIMS
- The Collection Date and Collection Time (on HDR line, field no. 14 and 15) are used for the Sample Date/Time in LabCal and Date Stamp for the result imported
- The State Laboratory Number must exist in the LabCal Personnel table (see LabCal Setup)
- All date fields are 8 characters in the form of MMDDYYYY (i.e. 02062014 is 6 Feb, 2014)
- All time fields are 6 characters in the form of HHMMSS (i.e. 110423 is 11:04.23 AM)
- The result field must have a value, the analyte code will determine the record type and field no.:

0999 |

If Less Than Indicator = 'Y' then 'ND' is returned |
- There must be a valid value in the following fields in Hach WIMS LabCal Sample
- The EDI Lab Sample Number must be entered in the Sample UD5 field
- The EDI Lab Analyte Code must be associated with a Test that is added to the Sample
- The EDI State Laboratory Number must exist in the Personnel table, and will update the LabCal Analyzed By field (see LabCal Setup)
- The LabCal Sample Test will point to a variable in Hach WIMS Client, that variable must be associated with the EDI interface in order to import results (see Supported Variable Configuration)
- The LabCal Sample must not be Closed. If all Tests for a Sample are completed by importing results, the interface will set the Sample to Analyzed
