There are two methods to getting the HQd Meter to communicate with WIMS. There is Mass Storage method and Virtual Serial method.

We can support both communication methods in WIMS 7.2.0 (and later). Any earlier version of WIMS can only support Mass Storage method.

Mass Storage Setup:

1. Check your HQd Meter Version http://www.opssys.com/instantkb/Article.aspx?id=13412
   
• If version 2.1.0.713 or higher then set the communication method on the device to Mass Storage.
• Version less than 2.1.0.173 only communicate using Mass Storage.
  
2. Connect the Device to the computer. http://www.opssys.com/instantkb/Article.aspx?id=13390
   
3. Add or Set the Hach_WIMS_Client.INI HQ40D_USES_SERIAL_PORT=no
   (Note that if the entry does not reside in the INI file, WIMS assumes that it is set to no)

Virtual Serial Setup (Preferred Method):

1. Check your HQd Meter Version http://www.opssys.com/instantkb/Article.aspx?id=13412
   
• If Version is less than 2.1.0.713 then you need to update the HQd Firmware.  http://www.opssys.com/instantkb/Article.aspx?id=13411
  
• If version 2.1.0.713 or higher then set the communication method on the device to Virtual Serial.
  
2. Connect the Device to the computer. http://www.opssys.com/instantkb/Article.aspx?id=13390
   
3. Add or Set the Hach_WIMS_Client.INI HQ40D_USES_SERIAL_PORT=yes
