Q10823 - INFO: MDLV

MDLV calculates the numeric value from a variable that allows the <,> and ND symbols based on a specified rule.

SYNTAX:

MDLV(Cx, Rule)
where :
Cx is a conditional variable x
Rule specifies the rule to use when an MDL symbol is encountered:

Rule Setting Action taken by the calculation
0 Value = 0
1 Use Entered Value (Note if ND does not allow numeric entries, ND=0 otherwise ND2=2)
2 Value of < is halved, value of > is doubled (ND=0)
3 Zero if <, Use Entered Value if > (ND=0)

NOTES:

This function should be used when you need a value other than the one specified on the MDL tab for the source variable.  This function allows a different MDL Rule to be applied to a variable without changing the rule specified in the variable's description.

EXAMPLES:

V1050 = MDLV(V71,0)  - uses rule 0
V1051 = MDLV(V71,1)  - uses rule 1
V1052 = MDLV(V71,2)  - uses rule 2
V1053 = MDLV(V71,3)  - uses rule 3

This will demonstrate each rule as they apply to the same set of input data:
