Lab 2.1.1: Variable Setup and Math Toolbox |
<Prev Next> |
To add variables into your facility, select System Setup, Edit/View Variables. The Variable Edit form is used to enter, add, change, and delete variables and their equations. The variable number in the form below is the key field in identifying variables. Your variable list will be stored in variable number order.

In this lab we will learn:
• To create a new parameter
• To insert a new variable
• To create a new calculation
• To use help to build formulas
Create a new parameter
This lesson takes you through adding a new parameter (Effluent TKN) to the database. First we need to plan where to place the new variable in the list.
Step 1: Open Variable Browser
1. Click System Setup, Edit/View Variables
2. Click the browse variable button .
3. Click on the Effluent Location and review the list of variables to identify a logical place to put Effluent TKN. It would make sense to place the new variable after ammonia at Variable 4111.
Step 2: Creating a New Variable
1. In Variable Edit, click Add New:
Add new will create a new blank variable at the end of the list. In this case it created variable 4697. We want to leave some space between the last variable and this newly created variable.
2. We are adding the variable Effluent TKN. Enter the following information:
• Name: Effluent TKN
• Short Name: Eff TKN
• Units: mg/L
• Track Every: Day
• Type: Parameter
• Decimal Places: 1
• Storet Code: 00625
3. Click the Change VarNum button:
4. You will be prompted for the new variable number. Enter 4111 as shown below:
5. Click OK and the VarNum will be changed.
Data is automatically saved. In the next lesson we will calculate the Eff TKN Loading.
