This lesson takes you through adding a new calculated parameter (Effluent TKN Load) to the database.

Step 1: Copy an Existing Variable

1. Open Edit/View Variables. You can skip this step if the window is already open.

2. In Variable Edit, click Copy:      

The copy variable form will be displayed:

3. Select 4111 for the first variable to be copied and last variable to be copied.

4. Enter 4112 in Location to copy Variables.

5. Make Sure that Maintain existing variable spacing after coping is checked.
6. Click OK:

 

Step 2: Enter New Variable Information and Formula

Copy will create a new variable with all the properties of the copied variable.  In this case it created variable 4112.  Now, let’s edit the information about the variable.  In this case, we are adding Effluent TKN Load.

1. Enter the following information into the new variable:

• Name: Effluent TKN Load
• Short Name: Eff TKN Load
• Units: lbs/day
• Track every: Day
• Type: Calculated
• Decimal Places: 1
• Storet Code: 00625

The form should appear as follows:


 
2. Now, we need to enter the formula (Equation) to calculate the load.  Click on the Equation Tab to display the formula entry. 
3. Enter the following equation: C1 * C4111 * 8.34.



4. Click Check Equation

5. Click Exit: 
 

HINT:  When entering equations use the … button on the Equation tab to browse for variables to insert into the equation.


Step 3: Using the Help File

WIMS contains over 100 functions that allow you to calculate all types of equations. 

1. To review available functions, press F1 to display help.

2. To view the list of available functions, browse to Function Reference, Math Toolbox Functions: 


The Math Toolbox help will be displayed.  The topic will display all functions that are available in WIMS and how to use them.  Simply click on an article to view the help topic.
