There are ways of having terminal service run checks for AV/AS/FW and up to date patches on clients. most notably a logon batch script that checks for the existence of these files and md5s them to the servers version of these dlls and dats.

It gives a clear look into a foggy claim. But I´d like to add a minimum of two other goodies pro Citrix: "enhanced management features" and "universal printer driver". I think those two saved about halve the admin time since we upgraded from RDP only Servers two Presentation Servers.

This article is outdated. With todays RDP/TSE, you can have seamless windows, SSL gateway, application publishing, load balancing, etc. Just look at products like provision networks VAS, or Jetro, or tarentella.

Hi,
Good Afternoon
I am also a IT consultant for a firm in Frankfurt, Germany and this article will greatly give me a better overview of what I can present to them on their decision on buying Citrix software for the 6 office locations around the world.
Thanks,
Brian

Our experience shows totally the opposite. TSE is non scalable - died frequently after 70 users. Citrix was so incredibly faster (especially when we switched to IBM Servers v/s Clones/Dell) but nevertheless - Citrix consumed about 20Kb per ICA client whereas TSE/RDP consumed close to 112Kb (according to our cymphonix box). All in all - a gazillion more time more DEPENDABLE, more CONTROL, SO much faster (especially on low bandwidth like our Sprint PCMCIA cards) and an incredibly SCALABLE product built from the ground up for ENTERPRISE use. Citrix is MILES ahead of Terminal Services. NOt even close.

Good article Jan. We are a Citrix shop. With Flu Pandemic planning happening for our organization, I will admit though, secure, remote access from home is much easier to use and configure with Citrix and Secure Gateway via Web Interface vs terminal services. I am sure Microsft will get there eventually though I am sure...
