Q10792 - INFO: GQZ

GQZ returns the MDL symbol (<, > or ND) based on a rule for a given variable.

SYNTAX:

GQZ(VarNum,GroupOffset/StartDate,Grouping/EndDate, Unused, Rule)

VarNum:  The variable number that refers to the values you want to look at.

GroupOffset/StartDate: Used with the Grouping parameter to set the dates to calculate the stat for.  Sets the number of Groups (set by the Grouping Parameter) to be added to set the dates.  See examples below. If this field is a date string (i.e. "07/16/2004") or refers to a cell with a date in it, it is assumed to be the start date to calculate the stat for.

Grouping/EndDate: Used to set which dates to calculate the stat for.  If the Grouping is a date literal string (i.e. "07/16/2004") or refers to a cell with a date in it, it is assumed to be the end date to calculate the stat for. Common Groupings are:

"D" Days
“M” Monthly
"R" Report Dates

Unused:  This parameter is not related to anything specific. Put 1 in for this parameter to get it to work.

Rule:  Defines the rule to follow to determine which MDL symbol to display.

1. Displays the first MDL symbol that it comes across within the date range.

2. Retuns the MDL symbol applied to all of the values in the data range. If a single one does not match, this returns blank.

3. Returns the MDL symbol if half or more of the values in the date range are the same. returns blank otherwise.

NOTES:

The unused parameter cannot be left blank even though it serves no real purpose. Besure to put something in this parameter (1 is recommended.)

EXAMPLES:

GQZ(9697, 1, "M", 1, 1)  Returns the first symbol it comes across int he date range. If no symbols, returns blank. In the above example returns < for MDL rule 1: Random row column is 4H, All row column is 7H, and Half is row column 10H.

GQZ(9699, 1, "M", 1, 2)  Returns a symbol if all values contain the same symbol for the date range. In the above example, returns blank because all the symbols are not the same for Random in row column 5H, and Half in row column 11H. Returns < symbol for All in row column  8H.
