Use this screen to select which components you want to install

 

 

The Hach WIMS components are split into two main categories - Client Components and Server Components.

 

Hach WIMS is a client-server application. The Hach WIMS Server is defined to be the computer that hosts the Hach WIMS database containg all data and, usually, the Hach WIMS Services.

The Hach WIMS Client can be installed on mulitple computers and is the main program users interact with. Besides a database, Hach WIMS also uses a number of services that run in the background. These services are used to perform calculations, generate reports, send emails, perform backups, etc.

 

Before you continue you must decide:

 

1. What computer will be the database server.  This computer should be highly available, fairly powerful and centrally located. This is the computer that you install the Hach WIMS Database Management System on.  You only install the Hach WIMS Database Management System on ONE computer.  

 

2. Where the Server Services will be installed.  These services run in the background on the PC and perform calculations, email reports, etc...  In many cases these services can be installed on the same computer as the database server and for most systems this is simplest approach.  In high use environments, with many users, large database, etc... you may choose to install the services on a separate system (typically called the application server) so the services do not tax the database server. 

 

3. Where to install the Server Setup program.  This application allows the administrator to create new databases, upgrade the database, etc...  It can be installed in multiple places and should be made available to all WIMS administrators.

 

To install the client application:
Leave the default selections (i.e. select only the Client Components) and click Next.

 

 

To install ONLY the database system:

Check the Hach WIMS Database Management System (found in the Server Components tree) and click Next.

 

 

To install ONLY the Server services:

Check all server components excluding the HACH WIMS Database Management System and click Next. 

 

 

To install both the database system and the server services:

Check the Server Components option (this will select all components in the Server Components tree) and click Next.
