Q12237 - HOWTO: Using Inteface Browser Q12234

Using the interface browser for Hach WIMS Direct Server-Side Interface to OSISoft PI Historian.

Step 1: It is important to note that in order for this browser to work, the OSISoft PI Historian OLE DB (PIOLEDB) driver must be installed on the Hach WIMS client computer. This must be version 2.0.11 or later because earlier versions of the driver did not support some standard query language syntax that is used by our statistics.

Step 2: The browser connection must be properly configured. In the Hach WIMS client:

  • Select System Tables -> Entire System -> Server-Side Interface Setup.

  • Select the Edit button for the OSISoft PI Historian entry that you want to enable the browser for.

  • Click on the Browser tab and enter the connection string for your GE Fanuc Proficy Historian server. Make sure Browser Enabled is checked and click OK button.

You are ready to view tags from the historian. Click on System Setup  -> View/Edit Variables and click on the Interface tab.

Click the button with a ? (question mark) on it as shown below:

The browser will load:

  • Interface Menu Bar
    •  Under File we have options: OK, Cancel, and Exit which work exactly the same as the Shortcut Buttons, explained next.
    • Under Help we have links to articles for how to use this interface, and About which shows the application information.
  • Shortcut Buttons
    •  button will send the selected tag name back to the Hach WIMS client.
    •  button will cancel selecting a tag.
    •  button will bring up help information about the interface and specifically the browser.
    •  button will exit the browser without making a tag selection.

The display box shows tag names and their descriptions in OSISoft PI server. To select a tag, double click it or click it once and then click OK button.
