HQd Meter Information

Reading Data from the HQd Meter into a Worksheet

The article that covers the basic method of reading data from the HQd Meter can be found here (Q10884). The procedure for taking a reading from the HQd Meter can be found here (Q11083) Initials and here (Q11084) finals.

Reading Data from the HQd Meter
The method of reading data from the HQd Meter varies slightly depending on whether the device is connected via the Mass Storage or the Virtual Serial Port options. When taking a reading using the Virtual Serial port the device starts to take the data automatically and the operator does not need to push the green button as they do when using the Mass Storage connection method.
Windows 7

There is a known issue using the HQd Meter with WIMS/BOD Manager in Windows 7. Windows 7 blocks communication to the device if you are using the Mass Storage connection method (or the original method if your firmware version is before 2.1.0.713) and you are logged in without admin privileges.  Please see this article Q13388, HQd Meter Communications Methods and Q13390, HQd Meter Virtual Serial Port XP and Q13393, HQd Meter Virtual Serial Port Win 7 that addresses that problem.

Connection Methods

See this article (Q13388) concerning the new option for connecting the HQd Meter to the computer/BOD Manager. Physically, the connection method is that same, please see this article (Q12577) that covers this.

Firmware Upgrade

In the situation where you need to conenct an HQd Meter to BOD Manager in a Windows 7 environment with a user that does not have admin privileges, please see this article (Q13388).

NOTE FOR UPRADING TO BOD Manager / WIMS VERSION 7.2: When upgrading to BOD Manager or WIMS to version 7.2 using the patch you will need to manually copy the HQD_VCOM.INF and HQD_VCOM.CAT files (found in the same folder as the HACH_WIMS_CLIENT.EXE file) to the C:\windows\inf folder. Keep in mind the INF folder maybe hidden as a System folder. In addition, you will need to automatically add this line, HQ40D_USES_SERIAL_PORT=yes, to the Hach_WIMS_Client.ini file (also in the same folder as the HACH_WIMS_CLIENT.EXE file). At least with one client with an XP system, I had to upgrade the driver of the USB Hub to a later version to get the hub to find and register the HQ40d device. I did this from the device manager.
