Q14714 - HOWTO: Dorsett Controls InfoScan

InfoScan is a desktop application developed by Dorsett Controls that allows access and manipulation of your Dorsett Controls SCADA System.

Most of the functionality of InfoScan won't be covered in this article.  Help documents are available within InfoScan.

Two topics that are covered are:

  • Generating an API-Key that can be used with this interface for connection to the Dorsett Controls SCADA API.
  • Getting the data point IDs for parameters set up in the Dorsett Controls SCADA system.
    • Data points IDs are needed in Variable setup for cross referencing to WIMS variables.

Generating an API-Key in InfoScan

Generating a Key

New API keys can be generated from the Keys tab in the API Manager in InfoScan. Click the Add New Key button to add a new key. The following options are available:

  • Description: A description/name given to a key for easy identification.

  • Access Filtering: Restrict the source of API requests. Limits who can access the API using the key.

  • Permissions

    • Scope: What type of data can be accessed.
      • Metadata Search: Search through points’ metaData property. (See Tagging section for more details.)
      • Report Data: Point historical data.
    • Permission Group: The permission group assigns the key to an InfoScan permission group. This will limit the points the API can access.
    • Live Data: Allow a client to establish a socket connection for live data.
  • Expiration: The key can be set to expire after a set amount of days after which a new key will need to be generated to continue accessing the API.
